Schools and Programs

Our schools, in Geelong, Maidstone and Caulfield in Victoria, and Annandale in New South Wales, support students whose learning needs have not been able to be catered for in a mainstream environment.

MacKillop Education has four specialist schools: MacKillop Education Caulfield (Foundation – VPC), MacKillop Education Geelong (Foundation – Year 12), MacKillop Education Maidstone (Year 3 – Year 6), and MacKillop Education Waranara School (Year 9 - 12). Our schools are suited to students whose learning and social/emotional needs cannot be adequately supported in a mainstream setting.

School can be a challenging environment for many children and young people, especially those who have experienced adversity and/or complex trauma. To cater for a student’s learning and wellbeing needs, we provide an environment that empowers students to re-engage in education and supports them academically and socially so they can experience success in learning and either continue their education at MacKillop or return to their host school.

In line with other Victorian Catholic schools, our Victorian schools implement the Victorian Curriculum at Foundation – Year 10, and the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) in the senior years of secondary school. Our Reframing Learning and Teaching Environments model (ReLATE) ensures we provide a safe learning environment for children and young people impacted by trauma. It is a holistic, school-wide model that is focused on supporting students at-risk.

Our Waranara school in New South Wales is a Special Assistance School that follows the New South Wales Curriculum offering schooling from year 9 to year 10. Students achieve the year 10 RoSA and HSC.

Our schools offer

  • Smaller classroom sizes and more individualised supports
  • Classroom routines/strategies to develop school readiness, wellbeing & learning engagement.
  • Referrals to specialist support services, as required

Our approach to education, across all schools, is focused on the child’s individual learning needs. We undertake a holistic approach in response to adversity, working with the child’s guardians/carers to facilitate healing and learning. We believe in each child and young person’s fundamental right to access a learning environment that caters for their needs and provides the necessary supports to ensure success in their learning journey.

MacKillop Education is a non-fee-paying school; however, in the senior years of secondary school there are costs for students undertaking Vocational Education and Training.
