A new step for Waranara this spring

MacKillop Education Waranara School will soon start in fresh new premises at 11 Mathieson Street, Annandale.

“We toured the new building recently and it was amazing,” says Transition Support Coordinator, Nicky Wells. “The classrooms, open areas and facilities are perfect for our young people to feel they are worthy, important and respected.”

Waranara offers a specialist environment for Year 9-12 students who find it difficult to stay engaged in mainstream schools.

“Our aim is to re-engage students with school through a trauma-informed and individualised approach to each student’s learning," says principal Rachael Peet, "so they can achieve their RoSA and HSC whilst improving their wellbeing. The new school will provide us with facilities to further respond to the needs of our students.”

“I’m excited to see how this great environment supports our students,” says teacher Stephanie Beck. “The new school building is welcoming, with spacious classrooms, a huge library and dedicated quiet/wellbeing rooms. The recreation spaces and new learning areas reflect our commitment to providing an exceptional, specialised education.”

“I cannot wait to move into the building and create a new safe space for our students,” says Student Wellbeing Advisor, George Voulgaropoulos. “The change will be quite marked - old into new - but the students will get the new school they deserve.”

The teaching and support staff are looking forward to Day One at the Annandale premises. Nicky Wells captures everyone’s sentiment when she says, “I am so excited to continue our culture of nurturing students in a space I feel really proud of!”
