Congratulations Tammy

It is with great pride that MacKillop Education announces Tammy Byrne's appointment as the Principal of our Maidstone School Campus.

An experienced leader and educator, Tammy has contributed her expertise across various institutions in the education sector, including the Hester Hornbrook Academy, Centre for Multicultural Youth, Victoria University, and the Australian Red Cross. With over 15 years of teaching experience in both England and Australia, Tammy brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.

In her third year with MacKillop, Tammy has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership in various capacities. She excels in establishing a safe and nurturing environment for children and young people, placing significant emphasis on cultivating a positive culture.

“Creating a positive, safe culture is particularly important to me. I am also passionate about ensuring that young people have access to evidence-based practices in education,” she says.

“As leaders in trauma-informed practice, MacKillop is at the forefront. I am thrilled to extend the implementation of curricula and practices aligning with the Science of Learning, especially the Science of Reading, to ensure we lead the way in our educational practices.”

Tammy firmly believes that positive outcomes are cultivated through these practices and collaborative efforts among staff, students, and caregivers.

She finds the greatest joy in her job by witnessing the remarkable growth in the young people at MacKillop Education, many of whom have been disengaged from education for a considerable amount of time.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Tammy is a self-proclaimed word nerd who delights in daily Wordle challenges, exploring the intricacies of phonology, etymology, and morphology. Her passions also extend to photography and travel.
